This significant investment marks an important step forward in the organisation’s commitment to sustainability, accessibility and enhancing opportunities for its students. The new vehicle will play a vital role in supporting day-to-day activities, including transport to performances, work placements, community projects and essential outings.
By choosing an electric vehicle, the Orpheus Centre is reducing its environmental impact while maintaining the high level of mobility and independence that its students rely on. The minibus produces zero tailpipe emissions, contributing to improved air quality and aligning with the Centre’s wider goals to operate more sustainably.
This follows the recent installation of four electric vehicle charging points in collaborations with East Surrey Rural Transport Provision. This electric vehicle purchase is part of our plan to save 2171.91 KgCO2e in our transport emissions this year.
We are incredibly grateful to The National Lottery and its players for making this possible. This new electric minibus not only gives our students greater freedom and access to life-changing opportunities but also reflects our commitment to protecting the environment for future generations. It’s a powerful example of how community support can drive meaningful, lasting change.Moira Clifton, Orpheus Chief Operation Officer

Reliable and accessible transport is crucial to the Centre’s work, ensuring students can fully participate in both their education and the wider community.
This project has been funded thanks to generous donors including National Lottery players, whose ongoing support enables charities like the Orpheus Centre to continue delivering essential services and transformative experiences.
