Volunteering

Orpheus would cease to exist without the large team of volunteers who undertake regular support roles at the centre. The commitment, enthusiasm and dedication of each of our volunteers has a fantastic impact and has contributed to transforming the lives of hundreds of young disabled adults over the past twenty five years. In 2016 our volunteers were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.

Ways to Support

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, although our minimum age for volunteers is 18 years. Whether you can spare a day a week, or just a few hours every so often, we would love you to get involved.

Safeguarding

Orpheus is committed to safeguarding and promotes the welfare of all students. As part of our safer recruitment process and in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, online searches will form part of this process. We are committed to the promotion of equal opportunities.

These posts are classed as having a high degree of contact with vulnerable adults and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. They are therefore subject to an Enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure Barring Service.
More about Safeguarding

We have made a positive commitment to employing people with disabilities. Reasonable adjustments will be made to the recruitment procedure as required in consultation with the applicant to ensure no-one is disadvantaged because of their disability. If a person with a disability is selected for a position, reasonable adjustments will be made to the workplace, including premises and equipment, work duties and practices or policies, as appropriate.

All applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role as set out in the role profile and person specification will be guaranteed an interview.
