From 6 to 10 March, we celebrated National Careers Week, with lots of workshops and guests!

This week is always the perfect time for the students to learn more about the world of work, their work experience opportunities, and to get thinking about and prepared for their potential career paths after Orpheus.

To kick off, students took part in some workshops on Monday put together by Careers and Employability Lead, Paulette. The focus was on job descriptions, and the students did great work completing an activity that helped them understand the difference between a duty required in a role and a skill they may need in order to apply.

On Tuesday, we had our first guest visit from actress, Lauren, who ran a dance workshop. She has starred in many well-known musical theatre productions such as Wicked, Grease, and Bad Cinderella which is the show she chose to teach the students a dance sequence from. Everyone in the group picked up on the steps very quick and overall found the session to be a very fun inside into the work of a professional dancer.

Funky Friday, our regular celebration session on Friday afternoons, was extended as we introduced our second guest, Justin Thomas, an actor who has been part of the cast for the Back to the Future musical, Grease, Disney’s Aladdin, and lots more exciting productions. He spoke to the students about his career, showed video examples of him on stage and how he prepares for each role, and let the students ask questions. It was definitely a fantastic way to end off the week!
