A Weekend of Inspiration, Performance, and Generosity at the Historic Home of Sir Richard Stilgoe
Trevereux Manor, the distinguished home of Sir Richard Stilgoe, played host to a remarkable weekend of events on the 12th and 13th of July, in support of The Orpheus Centre—the ground-breaking charity founded by Sir Richard himself. The event brought together a glittering assembly of supporters, friends, and distinguished guests, united in their commitment to empowering young disabled people through the arts.
Among the guests was His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, whose presence lent a sense of occasion to the festivities. Attendees were also treated to intimate interviews with stage and screen legends Sir Michael Palin and Dame Judi Dench, whose wit, warmth and generosity lit up the room.
Another highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the vibrant performances given by Orpheus students and alumni, whose talent and passion for music and theatre encapsulated the very spirit of the charity. These moving displays of creativity and confidence served as a testament to the transformative power of the Orpheus approach, inspiring all in attendance.
Guests enjoyed the rare privilege of picnicking on the elegant lawns stretching before the manor house and beside the tranquil lake, basking in the summer sunshine. The picturesque setting provided a perfect backdrop for celebration, connection, and reflection on the life-changing impact of The Orpheus Centre’s work.
Over the course of the weekend, vital funds were raised for The Orpheus Centre, enabling the continuation and growth of its innovative programmes, supporting many more young disabled people to live more independent and fulfilled lives. Guests were also given an opportunity to view the upcoming Capital Appeal to build a new college that will enable Orpheus to increase capacity and transform even more lives.
Sir Richard Stilgoe expressed his heartfelt gratitude, noting, “The generosity of our friends and supporters, my brilliant friends Sir Michael and Dame Judi, and, of course, the unforgettable performances of our students, have filled Trevereux Manor with laughter, music and hope. We are deeply thankful to everyone who made these two days such a resounding success for The Orpheus Centre.”
Andrew Willetts, Chief Executive at Orpheus added his gratitude, “To have the chance to showcase the talents of some of our students and alumni at such intimate events was a privilege for all involved. The funds raised will, quite literally, change lives – and with our ambitious plans for the future, we welcome those joining us on this journey”.
