Volunteering at Orpheus

From session support in music, art, drama, life skills, computer skills and many more to gardening, reception, IT and administration, events, fundraising and assisting backstage in productions, there are many ways that you can get involved.  Whether you want to offer your expertise or learn new skills in the process, there is sure to be the perfect volunteering role at Orpheus just for you.

Our minimum age for volunteering is 16 years.

Catering Assistant

To be a general help to do prep for lunch time service to students and staff and support the small kitchen team by serving on the counter. Duties could include.

  • Help setting lunch counter by putting out salads and desserts, cutting up bread
  • Ensuring a clean supply of cutlery
  • Entering payments into cash box and maintaining debt sheets
  • Supporting staff by taking contactless payments at the counter from students
  • Serving desserts where necessary
  • Helping to clear down counter after service by putting leftovers back into the kitchen
  • Washing up and putting crockery etc. away, wiping down of counters and work surfaces
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen floor and behind service counter

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:30-1:30.

Evening and Weekend Enrichment Club Volunteer

Main Duties

  • Opening Zoom links in a timely manner for students to log in
  • Make sure all students on site are aware of the evenings activity
  • Encouraging students to join in the activities
  • Most activities are student led, so knowing when they need a little prompting.
  • Report attendees to MGB
  • Clean space after use
  • Come up with ideas for clubs

Education and Training

  • Skills such as but not limited to:
  • Flower arranging
  • Baking
  • Gardening
  • Exercise
  • Drama
  • Must have good computer knowledge

Mon - Fri 17.00 – 20.00 Sat & Sun 10.30 – 16.00

Collection Box Coordinator

Main Duties

  • Make contact with existing and new locations for boxes.
  • Arrange for volunteers to visit the sites to collect or replace.
  • Talking to the locations owners about how the boxes will help The Orpheus Centre and what we do.
  • Arrange collection of the boxes as needed, replace with new.
  • Record the locations onto a spreadsheet or ThankQ.
  • Ensure Fundraising Admin receives full boxes and has details for a thank you.
  • Keeping a written record of the location of all boxes, the dates they are collected and the dates they are returned to The Orpheus Centre.
  • Reporting any stolen boxes to your staff contact.
  • Spotting the potential for further fundraising amongst the box holders for Community Fundraisers

Education and Training

  • Willingness to talk to people about The Orpheus Centre
  • Good communication and organisational skill
