The Orpheus Development Board

When I joined the Orpheus Centre as a volunteer 8 years ago, I knew I had joined something special.  The students, the staff and the cause all captivated me instantly - and it wasn't long before I started searching for other, more profound ways I could make a positive impact on not just the current students' at Orpheus, but on the wider organisation as a whole.  I was incredibly honoured to be asked to join the Development Board.  The Development Board is a group of very diverse people from all areas of professional backgrounds, different parts of the country and various ways in which they were personally introduced to Orpheus.  But all members share one thing in common - a passion for finding ways we can make Orpheus a better place for students both today and tomorrow, enriching their lives with the hope of one day living independently.
In order to achieve these outcomes, the Orpheus Development Board has a key role to play in fundraising to engage local support and working with the Centre fundraising team and Orpheus’s specialist Corporate and Major Gift staff to achieve the following objectives:
1) Raise funds to support the Centre. The Board has a particular focus on increasing the Orpheus Centre’s ability to secure significant gifts (£5,000 or more) from individuals, charitable trusts and companies, helping to secure additional support for Pay for a Day and other projects or activities that require funding; and
2) Work in partnership with the Orpheus fundraising team to strategically support the Orpheus Centre’s core fundraising activities eg challenge events, special events like Race Day and other flagship events.
To date, some of the success the Development Board has driven includes:
- Raised over £50,000 in the last two years
- Introduced new platforms for Orpheus to display students' talents and interests, such as visual arts
- Engaged with Gatwick Airport in order to secure their sponsorship of Orphest and support extensive works on our estate

If you or your friends/family know of areas that the Development Board could assist in leading and driving, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Moira or any of our members to discuss them.  We have big ambitions to drive even greater support for Orpheus and opportunities for our students and staff.
