Learning Transitions Programme

We are fundraising to expand our learning transitions programme, which focuses on the leaving stage of student life at Orpheus - the transition to independent living.  This is a three year programme costing around £250,000 a year.

Our goal is that every student from the Orpheus Centre is supported to ‘move on’ from the college - living independently once they leave us and  making a positive contribution to their community, with an established social support structure and activities.  We wish to develop our existing transitions programme to give our students the opportunity to transition into permanent paid employment.  To do this, we intend to expand our Information, Advice and Guidance Provision with trained support staff.  We are also launching a supported internship project, which will include the provision of a trained work experience placement officer.  Students will have the opportunity to obtain Food Hygiene qualifications and we intend to establish an onsite café providing work experience for students and service for all users of the college.  A further expansion of the programme means that students will continue to receive support with their independent living arrangements for a full year following graduation from Orpheus.
