The Orpheus Centre is an independent specialist college in Surrey that concentrates on performing and visual arts and makes dramatic improvements to young disabled adults’ lives. They believe that every young disabled person should have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers and offer a holistic learning programme, a supported housing scheme and a domiciliary care service.
Orpheus plans to drive up physical activity and increase the wellbeing of their entire community by installing an outdoor gym and a multi-use games area which is accessible to all. An outdoor gym could break down barriers to exercise, activate green spaces and be truly inclusive. Independent research proves that they reach inactive groups like ours; in addition, they promote environmental sustainability.
I will be taking part in the ‘Do it for Charity’ London to Brighton Cycle Ride, a mass-participation cycle ride covering the 54 miles from Clapham Common in London to Madeira Drive on Brighton sea front. I am fundraising for Orpheus’ Outdoor Gym and Multi-Use Games Area. Phil Lines
