I’m Wing Walking for Orpheus! That’s right – I’m going to stand on top of an aeroplane while it flies at up to 130mph to raise money for the Orpheus Centre.

I need to raise £1,000 for the privilege of this little challenge and that money is going to a really inspiring cause. So please dig deep as I’ll be strapped to a plane, being blown around in the skies above Surrey, in October, at 130mph….

The Orpheus Centre is an independent specialist college in Surrey that concentrates on making dramatic improvements to young disabled adults’ lives. They believe that every young disabled person should have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers and offer a holistic learning programme, a supported housing scheme and a domiciliary care service. Their students are between the ages of 18 and 25 and have learning and/or physical impairments. They usually stay at Orpheus for up to three years. Everything at Orpheus is focussed on maximising lasting independence for the students.

Orpheus plans to drive up physical activity and increase the wellbeing of their entire community by installing an outdoor gym and a multi-use games area which is accessible to all. An outdoor gym could break down barriers to exercise, activate green spaces and be truly inclusive. Independent research proves that they reach inactive groups like theirs; in addition, they promote environmental sustainability.
