Disability and arts News and blogs Supported Internship Award The transition to greater independence is at the heart of Orpheus’ remit, so George’s progress and achievements at Orpheus made him a natural choice for our Award. George has really developed his independent learning in group sessions. We have especially seen this in his arts award work. Arriving on time and starting work even before support arrives, George has demonstrated greater resilience, changing behaviour as asked. Most specifically this has included a greater ownership of tasks, improved team-working, an acceptance of and a positive response to feedback and the resilience to stick at something even when the going gets tough. There were moments, George himself now readily admits, when he did not want to undertake an internship; this couldn’t be more different from the George that is out waiting for his transportation to work with a great big smile. The award has been a welcome surprise for his parents who feel very emotional, knowing only too well George’s journey and just how far he has come. If you would like to support more students like George there are a number of ways:donating, fundraising or volunteering. Thank you.
