On the 29 June 2019 we opened our big blue doors and welcomed in the local community to share in a fun filled day with music, performances and much, much more.

And this year’s Open Day was better than ever, being enjoyed by over 300 people despite the 32 degree heat!

We are an independent specialist college, who focus on developing independence skills through performing and visual arts and make dramatic improvements to young disabled adults’ lives. We believe that every young disabled person should have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers and we offer a personalised study programme focusing on building independence, communication and social interaction skills.

Performances and workshops showcased the amazing talent of our Orpheus students. While a love of the arts being key, students learn by using the arts as a tool to grow in confidence and learn valuable life skills that others may take for granted. The Open Day helped share more about the amazing work of the centre with the local community.

Students ran many of the workshops themselves, while others helped greet visitors and answered question from eager potential new students.

But that’s not all. There were plenty of stalls, entertainment, and kids’ activities; the drumming workshop and book stall were both a big hit.  With a wide selection of food and drink on offer as well, the day was a great success.

Be sure to put the date in your diary for next year (27 June 2020) and check the website for news about other upcoming Orpheus events https://www.orpheus.org.uk/

We would also like to say a huge thank you to every single one of the staff and volunteers who helped out on the day. We really couldn’t have done it without you and we did an amazing job eve with the heat. Thank you!
