The Canterbury Tales will be a site-specific Orpheus production set in the grounds and theatre of the Centre with original music, set, costumes and props. Audience members will be enchanted by eleven of Chaucer’s most entertaining tales enjoying a highly interactive immersive experience.

This unique take on the classic tales is sure to entertain and will also provide a brilliant opportunity to really appreciate the vital work Orpheus does. The play takes on timeless themes of love, lust, greed, power, anger and bigotry and begins on Wednesday 17 July, running until Friday 19 July. There will be an evening performance on each night at 7.00 pm, as well as an additional matinee on the Friday at 2.00 pm.

From The Knight’s Tale with its exploration of chivalry and courtly love, to the bawdy Wife of Bath, our talented students, with the help of their tutors, have once again excelled themselves producing an innovative, hilarious show…with a few Orpheus twists!

The Canterbury Tales are all about taking a journey – something the Orpheus Centre’s young disabled students have experience of as they take their journey to independence supported via a performing arts curriculum.

The show’s Director, Rachel Martin, Curriculum Manager for Performance and Outreach, says, “The Tales are the most fantastic stories full of comedy, tragedy and the full range of human emotions, as relevant today as they were in the 14th century.”
