Disability and arts Outreach programmes Woodlands Outreach Blog In April 2018, a group of Orpheus students, alumni and staff went to Woodlands School to take part in an Outreach Week. Outreaches are intensive weeks where we start with a blank sheet of paper and end up with a show to family and friends. Orpheus students get the chance to interact with people from many different backgrounds and never fail to inspire and touch the hearts of everyone they meet. The theme of this week was the future and straight away the students chose the contexts of Space and love. Each morning the group came together to share ideas and help write the group songs. In the afternoons, the group split up into Drama, Music/Sound Effects and Song Writing groups to develop the rest of the show – a mission into space to find true love. Students from Woodlands who were not directly taking part made props, costumes and pieces of set and more students from Orpheus came on the final day to orchestrate lights, sound and effects, really adding to the performance. All of the students worked amazingly together and made fast friends. They were all so proud to present their own original show to their loved ones. Thank you very much for the week you spent at Woodlands. I was very impressed how well Orpheus worked together with Woodlands staff and pupils to produce a lovely event which delighted the audience and worked wonders for the participants. - Woodlands' Chairman of Governors.
