Students often arrive at Orpheus with little experience of living independently. We offer a unique onsite supported housing project where students learn to manage the tenancies of their own fully accessible independent flats.
Most of our flats are on the ground floor and contain hoists, wet rooms and automatic doors. We have a Tenants’ Association where tenants learn to take pride in their community. Tenants meet at a forum each month to discuss any issues they have with their flats. A president and vice president are elected. They are tenant led.
“We were initially nervous as to how Chris would settle into his new environment. We needn’t have worried. His room is spacious and comfortable and fitted out to a very high standard, with safety featuring highly. He is very conscious that he is responsible for looking after his room and takes great pride in this. The care arrangements in place are appropriately discreet and enable him to continue to develop his independent living skills within a friendly, supportive environment. We have been delighted with how he has responded and have seen a real change in his levels of personal confidence” – Helen Quilty, parent
