The Orpheus Centre

Welcome from our Centre Director

Welcome to our website!

I hope by visiting this you’ve got a flavour of what we’re all about.  We pride ourselves on being a friendly, creative and dynamic place to live and learn.  Our job is to change the lives of young disabled adults who want to live independent lives and, according to our students, we do this very well.  Students often come to us low in confidence and understandably nervous about living in their own flat, getting a job or attending mainstream colleges.  By the end of their time with us, they’re ready to take their rightful place in the wider community.

Our uniqueness lies in our performing arts work, which motivates our students to achieve more than they ever imagined.  We are lucky to have some of the best artists around running our courses, with a wide range of opportunities for students to develop their skills and perform.  We’ve seen performing in public make a big difference to our students; learning to manage “stage fright” helping their confidence in everyday situations such as job interviews; writing scripts and lyrics helping with literacy and the whole range of skills needed to put on a show developing their teamwork skills for the workplace.

If you like what you see on this website, please come and visit the centre.   The only way to really find out why Orpheus is such a unique place is to see it for yourself.  We hope to see you soon.
